So yeah, I figured that seeing as how my girls will be going to school full days this year that I would take on the task of running the Calgary Moms Trade Fair here in Calgary. At first I was freaking out with making the decision wondering if I would ever fill the booths... well it's almost done. :) I'm so happy that I took this on. I am feeling very confident about it now and believe that it will be great!

I am planning on coordinating the trade fair 2 times a year in Feb/March and Sept/Oct. I am so excited to see how much bigger this could get.

I just have to say that I am VERY thankful to Sara, my past partner, for running the show for the first 2 years that it was held. Thank you for getting the ball running, teaching me the in's and out's of the show and for making this so much easier for me! :)

Thank you to Donna, for helping out this time around. You are a huge asset to the show! :)

Anyways.. just wanted to share my excitement and spread some love!

Saturday, September 19, 2009 — Mark your calendar because it’s back! The ever popular and informative Calgary Moms Trade Fair is making its return this September 19, 2009 at the Radisson Hotel Trade Centre.

After a brief hiatus, organizers are pleased to announce the return of this free fun event for the whole family. The daylong event will feature over 40 exhibitors selling and promoting their various products. In addition, information booths will also be set up highlighting many popular parenting topics. There promises to be something for everyone.
Calgary Moms is an online community made up of over 4,000 area members who provide a supportive environment for moms and future moms to connect and develop lasting friendships.

Doors will open at 10 am and the fair will run until 3 pm. We look forward to you joining us for the day.

What a difference a year makes?!

I cannot believe the massive changes that have happened with Calgary Moms over the past year. Yes, I suck at updating this blog.. I actually forgot it was here... oops!

Anyways.. things have been moving right along on the forum.. Calgary Moms Community is growing in a LARGE way.. massive amounts of posts.. moms asking hundreds of questions.. moms just chatting about daily life.. (potty training and pregnancy top the charts) lol

We now have 3,987 register members... wow! That is amazing.. and 726,984 posts on the boards. eek! This will change in the next few weeks because I will be doing a pruning of posts from 2005 and 2006. So the post counts will change. Yep, that's right the community has been thriving since March 2005.

We have been working on adding classes for moms to attend. From parenting classes & cooking classes to self defense classes and depression classes we are trying to provide a little something for everyone. Oh, and more playgroups have been added. Moms Night Outs are a ton of fun.. and the pregnancy groups are enjoying their pregnancy chats.. I'm not sure what goes on at a pregnancy group.. well because I'm not pregnant.. but it sounds like they have fun. lol

We are still trying to find out a way to get more toc (thinking of conceiving) & ttc (trying to conceive) moms to join up.. I guess they see Calgary "Moms" and think it's only for moms.. if anyone has any ideas.. let me know. ;)

The Calgary Moms Semi Annual Retreat has come and gone. It was so much fun!

21 Calgary moms premier members attended the fun filled retreat.

It was perfect.. we all had our alone time & group time. My face still hurts from laughing so hard. LOL! I'm sure photos will be posted in the Retreat forum on the boards some time soon. I'm soooo looking for the next retreat in October. Hope to see some new faces out there to share in the fun!

There are quite a few changes going on that I want to let everyone know about.. I've decided to close Calgary Moms Talk Radio and CalgaryMoms Magazine. Too much work and too little time. During my alone time at the retreat I was reading the book The Success Principles by Jack Canfield (thanks Sara) and he suggests to get rid of what doesn't work and keep what does. So this is how I came to the decision.

Besides Calgary's Child magazine is out and about.. they do a MUCH better job with alot more information. You can see their website at www.CalgarysChild.com. They now have a online version that you can register to receive by email at their website.

I will send out an announcement to all the moms that registered to receive the magazine so that they aren't waiting for one to come in the mail.

CalgaryMomsCommunity.com reaches over 470,000 posts, over 2,500 registered members & 350 Premier Members!!

All I can say is ..................... WOW!!!

Little did I know that my once a little forum would burst into a large support community for moms to connect, make friends and provide loads of fun for moms in Calgary! :D

A few things have been changing on the boards. We are slowly adding several different clubs for moms to join and meet up with moms of similar interest.. so far we have book club, gardening club, scrapbook club, golf club, fitness club, new age club, debate club, wahm club (work at home mom) which includes biz club, and so many more.. some coming soon are kitchen club and a few others.. so keep a look out on the boards...

We are going on our 3 Calgary Moms Retreat this up and coming weekend. We currently have 38 moms booked for this retreat! Loads of fun! Much Needed Stress-free time! No one to look after but yourself! Tons of laughs and quiet time. :) Keep watch for updates for the next retreat sometime in March.

Our 5th Calgary Moms Body Challenge is coming to an end this week.. 12 teams of 4 moms were booked in total. Everyone is doing great!! :D Great job on the exercise points and the weight loss!!! Keep watch for updates on the next Body Challenge in April.

I love Calgarymoms! It's been my saving grace after I had Kalynah. I was finding that I was isolated and alone because I had no one to talk to about 'mom things' and 'baby things', none of our friends in the calgary have kids. And all our close friends that do have kids, their kids are either older or they live in different provinces and we dont talk to them very often.

I came across this website while searching for a playgroup for Kalynah and I was so happy that i found this place! Moving to Calgary from Ontario was a hard thing to do. My husband got a great job promotion, but we where going to be in a new province all by ourselves with the kids ! I searched the web for a place where I could just be me, a mom . I found Calgarymoms.com and let me tell you, it has been a life saver ! I have met some amazing moms on here. I now have a bunch of close friends who are really there for me. Whenever I have childrearing questions or personal problems I know I can reach out to these amazing moms and they are always here to help me and not judge me. I was the first out of my girlfriends to have a child. It was really hard b/c I didn't have anyone I could connect with as a mother. They are still single girls, living it up- there is little that they would understand about being a mom, until they become one. With my mom living in New Brunswick I felt a little out of touch with the world...and it doesn't help that Jamie works out of town 75% of the year. When DH was transferred to Calgary in September 2006, I was worried that our once full social life would fail to thrive. I found CMoms when I was messing around on the internet and decided to join. I spent the first month lurking and trying to get settled in Calgary. Then I decided to go for it and get the premier membership. I mean really ....$20.....what was there to lose??? I went to my first playgroup at the end of October and I haven't looked back. We have met so many friends and have a very active social life. The play dates and MNOs are fun, but being able to receive support and encouragement 24/7 is a life saver.

Happy New YEAR!!!

2007 is going to be a good YEAR!!

Happy New Year everyone! I read my horoscope in the newspaper on New Years day and it said that this year is going to be an awesome year! I also heard that 2007 is the year for the entrepreneur! Which is pretty cool!

I'm sad to say that we are losing a couple of our members on Calgary Moms. :( Robyn, Jenn and Lori are moving away. On a good note.. they will still be able to keep up to date with everyone on Canadian Moms Online :D

I also want to mention that there is something in the water here in Calgary.. I have never seen so many pregnant women on Calgary Moms at once. It's so cool! Congrats to all of you! I hope you all have a happy and healthy 9 months. :)

Calgary Moms Retreat to Canmore

Calgary Moms enjoyed their weekend in Canmore on October 20-22 :) We stayed in the cutest little cabins and of course a few of us drank a bit tooooo much. LOL!

I had a chance to actually sleep in.. I couldn't believe it. I slept in until 9:40am on Sunday.. Something I haven't done for oh, over 4 years. LOL!

A few of us enjoyed some spa time and a few of us went shopping.. We all met up for dinner on Saturday night and had MANY laughs.. It was an awesome time. :)

Well.. I had a sureal moment this morning. Four of us moms that have booths in the Calgary Moms Trade Fair were was interviewed this morning on the early morning news BT!

It was a very nerve wracking experience but Andrew Schultz from City TV was great and made it pretty comfortable. I new I messed up a few times.. but ack what can you expect from a first time on TV mom! Ack! LOL

It was an awesome experience! I had the recorder to tape the show but it didn't work.. Maybe that's a good thing. LOL

The Calgary Moms Trade Fair is this coming Saturday. I can't believe how fast time flew by... this is it.. :D

Calgary Moms Trade Fair takes place at the Blackfoot Inn on Sept 16th from 10-3pm. :D

Registration is not needed.. just come on down for some good family fun and info.

Walk to End Breast Cancer - Support the CalgaryMoms Team!

On July 28-30, Calgary Moms will have 4 AWESOME members that will be participating in the Walk to End Breast Cancer. Over the course of two days, Julie, Wendy, Tamara & Danielle will be walking 60 KMs around the City of Calgary.

Their Mandate is to raise funds going towards breast cancer awareness, research & treatment for all women affected or that will be affected with this disease.

Did you know that 1 in 9 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer? For example, if I did my math correctly, that means that 111 members on this site will be or have been diagnosed with breast cancer. That number is too high and in most cases, these women will be diagnosed too late.

Our goal is to raise $6000 before the weekend and they are currently at $1800, which means they have a long ways to go! That is why, we need YOUR support! To donate Click Here for more info!

Over 1000 Calgary moms set trend for Canadian moms

Calgarymoms.com, the website devoted to providing Calgary moms with a supportive place to connect with each other, recently launched five provincial websites for Canadian moms. Now moms and moms-to-be across Canada can experience the same friendship, fun and support that have made Calgarymoms.com so popular. The initial response to the new websites indicates that the provincial websites will be as successful as the Calgary website has been.

Calgarymoms.com went online March 28, 2005. The theme of the website is “Meet a group of marvelous moms at the click of a mouse!”, and moms in Calgary have been logging in to do just that. With over 1000 members, it is the largest online mom community in the city, and still growing. The forum offers moms living in Calgary and area a place to find friendship and online support for their questions about pregnancy, parenting, relationships, and anything else they want to talk about. Calgarymoms.com offers its members events such as playgroups, Mom’s Night Out, slumber parties, family BBQs, seasonal parties, a scrapbook club and many other activities. Britt Raposo, owner of Calgarymoms.com and mom of two busy girls, says, “We have several get-togethers every month… even if it's for a walk or a coffee. Someone is always up to meet.”

The positive response to Calgarymoms.com led Ms. Raposo to open provincial websites for moms living in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Ontariomoms.com went online April 12, 2006 and has 72 registered members. Albertamoms.com opened it doors May 10, 2006, and had over 50 members within its first two weeks. Membership is increasing daily. Other provincial websites will be coming online in the near future.

The success of the online mom communities is not a surprise. The forums fill a need for moms who have a hard time getting out and finding friends, for themselves and for their children. Karen Taillon, a member of Calgarymoms.com since March 31, 2005, discovered the online community after moving to Calgary from Ontario. She searched the Internet for a place to meet other moms, and found Calgarymoms.com. Ms. Taillon explains, “We get together for dinners, playdates with our children and have family outings with our spouses and kids. It's like my extended family!”
